No Changeups Were Thrown by US Teams in the 2010 LLWS

Dr. Chandler's shocking study

Editors published 3/1/2011 12:30:00 PM
Out of 1,100 pitches thrown by US teams during the 2010 Little League World Series, no changeups were thrown, according to a running study by Dr. Joe Chandler, Braves medical doctor.

This is in spite of the fact that most sports medical people advise against breaking balls and encourage the use of changeups for youth pitchers.

Dr. Chandler has been analyzing pitch counts and types of pitches thrown in the LLWS since 1991. He has noticed a sharp increase in the number of curveballs thrown (especially in championship games) and in the total number of pitches thrown by young pitchers over the years.
