Radar wrong by 1mph on Jonathan Broxton's reported 100 mph pitch

Editors published 4/7/2009 10:00:00 AM
The radar gun read 100 mph in the 9th inning when Dodgers' Jonathan Broxton pitched to Luis Rodriguez of San Diego at Petco Park.

This would have made Broxton the first pitcher in the majors to hit 100 mph this season. However, the gun was off by 1 mph. The pitch maxed out at 98.6 mph and slowed to 89.4 mph when it crossed the plate.

The fastest pitcher of the day was actually Justin Verlander the Detroit Tigers when he tossed one 99.6 mph to Toronto's Scott Rolen in the first inning.

So, we will have to wait a few more days.
